We’re always looking for new players, so if you would like to join us then just send us a message! Our bands are mostly for wind players – flute, clarinet, oboe, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium and tuba, to name a few, but there are places for guitar players, bass players, percussionists and ukulele players as well. Many DVYM players who started as total beginners have gone on to pass their Grade 8 exams and some have even gone on to study music at university!
No auditions are necessary! Hurrah! Mostly we look at any current grade exams you might have passed. If you’ve not done any exams then fear not- the conductors will often put a player in a band appropriate to their experience and ability (and they can always have a word with your music teacher if you’re not sure). Do get in touch if you’d like your child to try a session. The start of a term is best for inexperienced players getting the hang of playing in a group for the first time.
And don’t worry if you don’t have an instrument! DVYM has a load of Instruments for Hire and will do its best to accommodate a player’s needs.
All the bands meet in Eynsford, weekly, during term time.
Fees are £60 a term for a child to attend one or both of Concert Band and Phoenix Jazz. Minims, Ukes and the Vocal Ensemble are currently £40 each per term.
A list of all the bands’ performances for this year can be found on the Events 2018 page. The majority involve Concert band and Phoenix and are in the summer along with Easter and Christmas concerts for all the ensembles. We have a modestly priced uniform of navy fleece and polo shirt required for performances.
Thanks for looking at our website, it would be great to see you soon!
